Unfortunately, this is not a question with a simple answer. Depending on what you are coming in for, the timeline might vary. If you choose to come in weekly, it is possible to build a close working relationship faster than if you just came in every few weeks. How much you will get out of the sessions depends on how much you put in. Often simply feeling understood and hearing that one's issues make sense can be a big relief.

It is my goal to get you to a place of not needing therapy anymore. I would rather have you come in weekly for a while and then taper out the session frequency as we are noticing that you are feeling better. Some people might feel significant relief by attending therapy for 3-6 months, for others it might take years. However, it is important that you let your therapist know how much time you have, what your financial situation allows and what you are trying to get out of therapy. Then we can come up with a plan that helps you work towards relief in a manner that suits your needs.
